The Gibraltar Sports & Leisure Authority is working in partnership with the Physical Activities Association for Mature Older Adults (PAAMOA) to provide a programme of activities aimed at ensuring that we ‘Look After Ourselves’ and continue to live a happy, healthy and active lifestyle into the future.
Ahead of the European Commission’s visit to the Frontier, the Gibraltar Government has claimed that the Spanish authorities have cleared and cordoned off the area behind the Spanish customs check point, where cars are usually parked, in order to use that area for the purpose of searching cars travelling from Gibraltar to Spain.
The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo, will leave Gibraltar this Sunday in order to attend the Labour Party Conference in Brighton. He will return on Monday evening.
Whilst he is away, the Deputy Chief Minister, the Hon Joseph Garcia, will act as Chief Minister.
As the Gibraltar Football Association finds itself busier and busier, local support continues to reign with Sports Minister Steven Linares today unveiling a post-box hand painted in GFA colours emblazoned with the club’s badge.
Tomorrow sees Gibraltar’s 9th participation in the inspiring global Clean up the World campaign. CUTW Australia, founders of this great campaign say, “The estimated 35 million volunteers, who take part in Clean Up the World, are taking responsibility for the environment – and the effects are felt not only in the community in which they take place, but right across the planet. Our campaign theme - Our Place… Our Planet… Our Responsibility - highlights how local action – taken by every community and volunteer involved in a Clean Up the World activity – has a global impact.”
This Sunday, as from 1pm, The Gibraltar Gaels will host a free Open Day at the Victoria Stadium, in order to showcase Gaelic Football to prospective players in Gibraltar.
The team holds the title for current Andalucían Gaelic Football Champions and will begin training for the season ahead in the coming weeks. The Gaels encourage anyone of any ability, to come along and try out.
In an effort to provide more Appropriate Adults for local charity Childline Gibraltar, the team has been ‘training the trainers’. These adults include volunteers who make themselves available at all times to support vulnerable juveniles who have been detained by the police and whose parents or carers are not available. Appropriate Adults also assist with communication between the detained person and the police. It is important to stress that this service has been very much welcomed by the RGP and HM Customs. The Appropriate Adult role was first introduced under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, the principles of which have been adopted in Gibraltar.
Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar does not share the view expressed by Spain's Minister of State Gonzalo de Benito regarding the structure for "ad hoc" dialogue that is currently under discussion between Gibraltar, the United Kingdom and Spain.
The Foreign Secretary William Hague made it clear to Mr Margallo - in writing and in agreement with the Government of Gibraltar - that his proposal for "ad hoc" talks was not for four parties (the UK, Spain, Gibraltar and the regional authorities in Andalucia) to meet alongside the EU Commission. The Foreign Secretary specifically emphasised that the proposal is for parties that are relevant to issues being discussed to be present at any such discussions. In some instances that might mean two parties meeting, or three. In some instances that may mean four or more parties. There is no fixed number and no question of the parties always being four.
It is therefore misleading for Mr de Benito to continuously refer to four parties and to give the impression that these four would meet all the time with other relevant entities joining in as and when required.
