Gibraltar stamps "Endangered Animals Part III"

Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau have issued a set of stamps featuring Endangered Animals.

This is the third set issued for this very popular series of stamps. The set comprises of 6 x 42p stamps depicting the Asiatic Cheetah, African Penguin, Atlantic Bluefun Tuna, Chinese Alligator, Red-crowned Crane and Leatherback Sea Turtle.

The illustrations were specially commissioned for these stamps and were produced by Jonathan Pointer, a UK based wildlife artist. Jonathan Pointer is renowned around the globe for his talents as a wildlife artist and his work has a traditional feel, combining realism and a strong sense of narrative.

Sep 19 Change Of Governor Of Gibraltar

Lieutenant-General Sir James Benjamin DuttonLieutenant-General Sir James Benjamin Dutton KCB CBE has been appointed Governor of Gibraltar in succession to Vice-Admiral Sir Adrian Johns KCB CBE. Sir James will take up his appointment during December 2013.

Sir James completed a full career of 37 years in the Royal Marines. His last ten years were dominated by Iraq and Afghanistan, either serving in those countries or dealing with the policy and operational issues from London and Washington DC. On retirement in 2010 he joined the Bechtel Corporation and has spent the last two and a half years as the Programme Director in Gabon in West Africa, latterly as the Director-General of the infrastructure development agency working directly for the Presidency.

Sep 18 British Lines Road Arrests

customsTwo men were arrested by HM Customs yesterday evening at British Lines Road under the provisions of the Tobacco Act. The men were seen in a commercial vehicle approaching the frontier fence when they were challenged by Customs officers and the vehicle searched.

40,000 cigarettes (200 cartons) were found during the search.

Sep 18 Gibraltar On Track To Obtain 100% WI-FI Connectivity At Tourist Locations

Gibraltar TourismMinister for Tourism, Commercial Affairs, Public Transport and the Port, Neil Costa MP has announced that most of Gibraltar’s beaches, tourist sites, hotels and places of interest now have WI-FI Hotspots up and running, part of an ambitious project by the Gibraltar Government to provide 100% internet coverage of these areas throughout the Rock.

The latest areas to obtain outdoor online connectivity are Moorish Castle, Europa Point, the Great Siege Tunnels and the Gibraltar Museum. This amenity will be available to the local population and visitors whose tourist experience of the Rock will be greatly enhanced with this new service.

Wi-Fi Hotspots in Gibraltar now cover 80% of the main public locations with the latest four sites having been incorporated in the last fortnight, bringing the total to 18 fully operational locations.

The initiative was first announced by Minister Costa in his Budget address of 2012, with further detail being made public in 2013.
