Feb 04 - Thomson Cruises Visit

costaFollowing the recent visit by representatives from Carnival UK, two more cruise company executives arrive in Gibraltar today on a familiarisation visit. Neil Duncan, General Manager - Marketing and Planning, and Jacqui Nobile, Port and Shore Excursion Operations Manager of Thomson Cruises are here to experience first-hand what Gibraltar can offer their ships and passengers on a cruise call.

Minister for Tourism, Commercial Affairs, Public Transport and the Port, Neil Costa, met with Thomson Cruises at their UK headquarters last year to discuss ways in which the number of calls to Gibraltar by Thomson's ships could be increased and how we could develop the shore excursions offered to passengers.

Feb 04 - Between a Rock and a Dirty Place

clean-upThis weekend, members of the Laguna Youth Club, along with the Community Committee and the RGP Neighbourhood Policing Unit cleaned up the rubbish that had accumulated in the area between the estate and the Rock. Minister Dr. John Cortes and Steven Linares also joined in the clean up.

The team was provided with overalls, safety helmets and gloves, by GJBS and Master Service. Minister Cortes noted that the initiative was a local one, but was also consistent with the aims of the Government’s Litter Committee.

Feb 04 - Licudi Signs India and Greece Tax Agreements

taxMinister Responsible for Financial Services, Mr. Gilbert Licudi signed a further Tax Information Exchange Agreement with the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. J. Bhagwati. Following the signing, Minister Licudi discussed a wide variety of policy areas, with the High Commissioner. This Tax Agreement with India is particularly significant due to the country’s status as a G20 member.

Feb 04 - AKIN Sierra Leone Raise £27,000 in Raffle Ticket Funds

akin car raffleThe hotly awaited AKIN Sierra Leone Project car raffle was held late last week at the Rock Motors showroom. Following a massive team effort with raffle ticket sales, the team managed to raise a record breaking £27,000 to help build further schools in Sierra Leone this year. All 7000 tickets were sold. Winning tickets were chosen by Miss Gibraltar 2012, Jessica Baldachino.

Some of the prizes included a brand new Renault Clio from Rock Motors, which was won by ticket number 4070 belonging to L Pincho. A Honda PCX Motocycle from Bassadone Motors was won by ticket number 5752 belonging to G Hernandez. All other prizes and winners are published below.
