Mar 06 - World Book Day Explores the Talents of Local Authors

wbd st marys World Book Day has long been a well-celebrated event in the UK with annual handouts of book tokens to schools, dress ups, book signings, book fairs, and an extensive programme of activities aimed at influencing school children to read.

The World Book Day Charity sends out an activity pack and programme to schools around the UK, outlining events and activities that can be carried out throughout the day. With sponsorship from National Book Tokens Ltd school children receive book tokens to help towards purchasing books. Children are also encouraged to dress as their favourite fictional characters and many schools invite authors to speak, read to children, and hold signings.

Mar 06 - Top Tax Expert Joins GSD Executive

gsdFollowing the restructure of the party, adoption of a new constitution by the party membership and election of its new executive, the GSD has announced the strengthening of an already strong executive by the inclusion of well-known and highly regarded local lawyer Chris White.

Chris White came to Gibraltar 20 years ago to assist in the revitalising of the Income Tax Office.  He was de facto Commissioner of Income Tax for three years.  When it was time to go back to the UK, he realised that he really wanted to stay here. Chris now works at Hassans, where he is regarded as one of the foremost tax experts in Gibraltar.

Somewhat echoing the Mr. Picardo’s comments, the group insists that ‘the United Kingdom has not done enough to deter the constant bullying and harassment by the Spanish Government towards Gibraltar and its people, and should bring its diplomatic pressure to bear in order to begin to see tangible results’

Mar 06 - Childline Blue Day

childline Childline Gibraltar will hold its annual awareness-raising Blue Day on Friday 14 March. On Blue Day, Childline volunteers will visit local schools while staff at many local companies will show their support by dressing in blue for the day.

On Saturday 15th, the Gibraltar Rockettes Cheerleaders will support Childline by performing in Casemates Square between 12 noon and 1pm.  Winners of the recent Cheersport solo competition will also be performing.

Mar 06 - 2 – 0 Loss for Gibraltar in Inaugural UEFA Friendly

gfaWith a much better performance from the GFA, than during Saturday night’s friendly against the Faroe Islands, Estonia’s national team yesterday beat the home side 2 – 0 at the Victoria Stadium.

The match marked former Stoke and Chester Defender Danny Higginbotham’s last ever football game. He was met with a standing ovation from the crowd as he departed the pitch in the last half of the match, to make way for the GFA’s Jamie Robba.
